FLORENCE — Florence has been named Arizona’s safest city for 2018 by the website HomeSnacks.
The website, which reports recent data, videos and thoughts on local culture, called Florence “a classic example of everything that makes Arizona great.”
“We are talking about only having a 1-in-206.2 chance of being the victim of a property crime and a 1-in-1,415 chance of being the victim of violent crime. That’s crazy safe,” the website said.
The website analyzed the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report in ranking Arizona cities and towns of at least 5,000 residents. There were 173 crimes committed in Florence, which had a reported population of 31,130. That means the number of crimes per capita is 0.00556, which translates into a 1-in-180 chance of being the victim of a crime, according to HomeSnacks.
Florence usually fares well in surveys like this because approximately two-thirds of its residents are behind bars and can’t directly call the police. HomeSnacks praised Florence without acknowledging the town’s edge.
The website determined the next safest cities to be Buckeye, Gilbert, Thatcher, Oro Valley, Paradise Valley, Sahuarita, Somerton, San Luis and Maricopa. Eloy was 31st on the list, Coolidge was 36th and Casa Grande was 40th.
Toward the bottom of the list were Glendale, Holbrook, Tucson, Winslow and Page. In Page, residents had a 1-in-13 chance of being a crime victim. More on the survey can found at www.homesnacks.net/cities/safest-places-in-arizona.
